"Lures of the Month" from ABQ Sportfishing and Bob "Lucky" Lechel:
ABQ's pick is the Berkley 4" PowerGrub - Milky Salt and Pepper Popular for all species of fish, especially in colder water. A flexible bait for a variety of rigging options. Like Bob, we prefer a 1/4 ball head for our structure fishing.
Lucky's choice: Yamamoto Single Tail Grub - White or Chartreuse It’s hard to beat a 3 or 4” grub in chartreuse or white on ¼ to 3/8 oz jig head for the walleye, crappie, and bass this time of year. Look for deepwater near points anywhere from 20-40ft of water on the main lake. It helps to use your electronics to find them, but it’s a great way to brush up on your video gaming/fishing at the same time.

New Mexico FISHING REPORT

January 6, 2007

This fishing report has been generated from the best information available from officers and anglers.

STORRIE LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.

UTE LAKE: There was very light pressure on the lake again this past week. For those anglers who made the trip, fishing was fair using slab spoons and jigs at 40-to-50 feet along the main channel for walleye and a few white bass. We had no reports on other species.

ELEPHANT BUTTE: Fishing was slow for all species and there were very few anglers on the lake again this past week. The water level has risen significantly over the past year and all boat ramps are currently open. If you are planning a trip here, look for the stripers, white bass, walleye and other fish to be much deeper than where you found them a month or two ago. Use spoons, deep running crank baits, jigs and live bait and work them slowly and deep along the main channel for your best opportunity to catch fish. If you find a school of fish that won’t respond to any of your baits move on to another. Use these same lures and bait on all of our warm water lakes for some good winter fishing.

GLENWOOD POND: We had no reports from anglers this week.
