"Lures of the Month" from ABQ Sportfishing and Bob "Lucky" Lechel:
ABQ's pick is the Berkley 4" PowerGrub - Milky Salt and Pepper Popular for all species of fish, especially in colder water. A flexible bait for a variety of rigging options. Like Bob, we prefer a 1/4 ball head for our structure fishing.
Lucky's choice: Yamamoto Single Tail Grub - White or Chartreuse It’s hard to beat a 3 or 4” grub in chartreuse or white on ¼ to 3/8 oz jig head for the walleye, crappie, and bass this time of year. Look for deepwater near points anywhere from 20-40ft of water on the main lake. It helps to use your electronics to find them, but it’s a great way to brush up on your video gaming/fishing at the same time.

New Mexico FISHING REPORT

November 10, 2007

This fishing report has been generated from the best information available from officers and anglers.

Conditions encountered after the report is compiled may differ, however, as stream, lake and weather conditions alter fish and angler activities.

New Mexico

CATCHES OF THE WEEK:

 

Lake Roberts: On November 3, Clyde Martinez of Los Lunas caught a 17 inch rainbow trout. He was

using a night crawler.

 

Elephant Butte: On November 10, Steven Wysocki of Horizon City, TX caught a 4 pound 8 ounce

walleye. He was trolling a Bomber crank bait.

 

Heron Lake: On November 11, Joey Trujillo of Albuquerque caught a 33 inch 9.1 pound lake trout

and a 35 inch 13pound lake trout. He was using salmon eggs.

 

NORTHEAST AREA

 

CANJILON LAKES:            We had no reports from anglers this week.

CIMARRON RIVER:            As of Monday, water flow below Eagle Nest Lake was .11 and is expected to remain low through the winter months.  Trout fishing was slow.

CONCHAS LAKE:               Fishing was fair using tubes, 4 inch worms, senkos and crank baits for smallmouth bass. Most of the bass caught were in less than 10 feet of water. A few walleye were taken by anglers using jig and minnow combinations and spoons. We had no reports on other species.

COYOTE CREEK:                 Trout fishing was slow-to-fair for anglers using salmon eggs and worms.

EAGLE NEST LAKE:           Kokanee snagging was fair this past week in the Six Mile Creek area, near the Honey Hole and by the north boat ramp. Trout fishing was good for anglers using spinners, Super Dupers, power bait, roe sacs and salmon eggs.  

LAKE MALOYA/

LAKE ALICE:       Trout fishing was good at both lakes this past week for anglers using home made dough baits and power bait. Fishing with spinners and flies was slow.

LOS PINOS:                          Trout fishing was fair for anglers using egg patterns, copper john barrs and salmon eggs.  

MONASTERY LAKE:         We had no reports from anglers this week.  

PECOS RIVER:                      Water flow near the town of Pecos as of Monday morning was 31cfs. Fishing was fair for anglers using worms, salmon eggs and copper john barrs for a mix of brown and rainbow trout.

RED RIVER:                          Water flow below the hatchery was 51cfs. Trout fishing above the hatchery was fair for anglers using wooly buggers, egg patterns and copper john barrs.

RIO GRANDE:                      The water flow Monday morning at the Taos Junction Bridge was 617cfs. Fishing was slow for all species.

SPRINGER LAKE:                We had no reports from anglers this week.  

STORRIE LAKE:                  Trout fishing was very good for anglers using yellow and chartreuse power bait, salmon eggs and cheese. We had no reports on other species.

STUBBLEFIELD

             LAKE:                       We had no reports from anglers this week. 

UTE LAKE:                           Fishing for walleye was very good again this past week. Anglers did well using jigging spoons in 40-to-50 feet of water. Anglers fishing for walleye reported catching several white bass in the 1.5-to-2 pound range. It appears that the white bass were in the same area as the walleye. Fishing for largemouth and smallmouth bass was fair-to-good for anglers using crank baits and finesse baits such as small worms in shallow water. We had no reports on other species.

ABIQUIU LAKE:                 Smallmouth bass fishing was slow-to-fair for anglers using tubes, senkos, crank baits and grubs. Most of the fish were taken at depths of 12-to-25 feet. A few walleye were taken by anglers working the break lines along the main channel and using Rip Sticks and spoons.

 

NORTHWEST AREA

 

ALBUQUERQUE 

   AREA DRAINS:                Trout fishing was fair for anglers using small wet flies, parachute adams and salmon eggs. All of the drains were recently stocked and will provide good trout fishing through the winter months.  

BLUEWATER LAKE:         Fishing pressure was very light this past week. Anglers who ventured out caught a few tiger musky while using spinners and swim baits but fishing for all other species was very slow.

CHAMA RIVER:                  Monday morning water flows below El Vado and Abiquiu were 93cfs and 60cfs respectively. Fishing below El Vado was good for anglers using Panther Martins, night crawlers and salmon eggs for a mix of brown and rainbow trout. Below Abiquiu, anglers fishing pocket water caught a few rainbow trout. They were using power bait and wooly buggers.

COCHITI LAKE:                  We had no reports from anglers this week.

EL VADO LAKE:           Fishing was slow for all species.

JACKSON LAKE:                The lake was recently stocked with rainbow trout but we had no reports from anglers.

FENTON LAKE:                   Trout fishing was slow again this past week. A few fish were taken by anglers using worms.

HERON LAKE:                     Kokanee snagging on the opening weekend was very good for anglers working near the dam, at the La Laja boat ramp and at Salmon Run. Fishing was fair-to-good in the snagging areas using roe sacs, salmon eggs and power bait for rainbow trout and lake trout.

JEMEZ WATERS:               Water flow on the Jemez River on Monday morning was 23cfs. Trout fishing was fair-to-good using copper john barrs, salmon eggs, power bait and worms. We had no reports on other species.

LAKE FARMINGTON:       Trout fishing was fair-to-good for anglers using power bait, salmon eggs, homemade dough baits and cheese.

NAVAJO LAKE:                  Fishing for smallmouth bass was slow-to-fair for anglers using crank baits, tubes and finesse worms. Most of the bass were taken at depths of 10-to-25 feet. Fishing for rainbow trout was fair for anglers using roe sacs, salmon eggs, power bait and corn. Kokanee snagging was slow. We had no reports on other species.

RAMAH LAKE:   We had no reports from anglers this week.

SAN GREGORIO

                    LAKE:                Trout fishing was slow.    

SAN JUAN:                          Water flow below Navajo Lake as of Monday morning was 751cfs. Trout fishing through the Quality Waters was fair for anglers using parachute adams, small egg patterns, WD40s, dead chickens, small red annelids, San Juan worms and sparkle worms. Fishing through the bait waters was fair using garlic cheese, jerk baits, wax worms, copper john barrs, salmon eggs and spinners.

SANTA CRUZ LAKE:        Trout fishing was fair for anglers using small Kastmasters, gold spinners, salmon eggs and power bait.          

TINGLEY BEACH:               Excellent trout fishing was reported in all three ponds this past week. Anglers did very well in the Central and Youth Only ponds using power bait, salmon eggs, corn, cheese and spinners. At the Catch and Release Pond best flies were bunny leeches, wooly buggers, copper john barrs and Pistol Petes. 

 

SOUTHWEST AREA

 

BEAR CANYON:                 We had no reports from anglers this week.   

BILL EVANS LAKE:            Trout fishing was very good for anglers using power bait, salmon eggs, cheese, worms and spinners.  We had no reports on other species. 

BURN LAKE:                        We had no reports from anglers this week.     

CABALLO LAKE:               We had no reports from anglers this week.

ELEPHANT BUTTE:           Fishing was fair-to-good for anglers using tubes, finesse worms, sweet beavers, grubs and crank baits for largemouth and smallmouth bass. Most of the bass were taken in less than 12 feet of water. Fishing was fair using slab spoons, crank baits, Gulp minnows and live bait for white bass and walleye. Anglers did very well trolling along the red buoys near Kettle Top. A few striped bass were taken by anglers using live bait and crank baits. We had no reports on other species.    

GLENWOOD POND:           We had no reports from anglers this week.

ESCONDIDA LAKE:           Trout fishing was good using power bait, salmon eggs, corn, cheese and Pistol Petes under a bubble.    

GILA RIVER:                         Water flow near Gila on Monday was 62cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.

LAKE ROBERTS:                 Trout fishing was fair-to-good for anglers using power bait, salmon eggs, worms, spinners and wooly buggers.        

PERCHA DAM:                   We had no reports from anglers this week.      

QUEMADO LAKE:             We had no reports from anglers this week.

RIO GRANDE:                      Water flow below Elephant Butte on Monday was 13cfs. Fishing this stretch was slow. Below Caballo, fishing was slow but a few white bass and catfish were taken by anglers using minnows.

SNOW LAKE:                      We had no reports from anglers this week.  

 

SOUTHEAST AREA

 

BATAAN LAKE:                 Trout fishing was fair for anglers using salmon eggs, spinners, cheese and power bait.    

BONITO LAKE:                   Trout fishing was good for anglers using power bait, worms, salmon eggs, prop flies and olive stimulators.

BOSQUE REDONDO:          Trout fishing was slow-to-fair for anglers using corn, salmon eggs and flies under a bubble. We had no reports on other species.    

BRANTLEY LAKE:             Anglers are to practice catch and release for all fish here as high levels of DDT were found in several fish. 

CARLSBAD

     MUNICIPAL LAKE:       We had no reports from anglers this week.

GRINDSTONE

RESERVOIR:       Fishing was slow. Rainbow trout stocking has been temporarily suspended while the Village of Ruidoso treats the lake to control algae blooms. 

JAL LAKE:                            We had no reports from anglers this week.

LAKE VAN:                          Trout fishing was fair for anglers using power bait, salmon eggs and spinners. We had no reports on other species.   

MANZANO LAKE:             Trout fishing was good for anglers using Panther Martins, Super Dupers, salmon eggs and power bait.

OASIS PARK LAKE:          The State Park has drained the lake for maintenance and renovation. Work is expected to be completed within the next few weeks. For more information contact the park office at 505-356-5331.

PERCH LAKE:                      Trout fishing was fair for anglers using spinners, salmon eggs and power bait.  

PECOS RIVER:                      Water flow on Monday below Sumner Lake was 11cfs. Fishing for trout was fair for anglers using corn, salmon eggs and power bait. We had no reports on other species.

RUIDOSO RIVER:                Water flow at Ruidoso on Monday was .97cfs. Trout fishing was slow.

SANTA ROSA LAKE:        Fishing was fair-to-good using crawdad colored crank baits, finesse worms and tubes in 4-to-12 feet of water for largemouth and smallmouth bass.  We had no reports on other species.   

SUMNER LAKE:                  Largemouth and smallmouth bass fishing continued to be quite good this past week. Anglers did well using crank baits and plastics in 2-to-10 feet of water.  A few walleye were taken by anglers using spoons and deep running crank baits. We had no reports on other species.
