New Mexico FISHING REPORT
December 8, 2007
This fishing report has been generated from the best information available from officers and anglers.
Conditions encountered after the report is compiled may differ, however, as stream, lake and weather conditions alter fish and angler activities.
CATCHES OF THE WEEK:
San Juan River: On December 2, Peter Reike of California caught a 22 inch rainbow trout. He was
fishing the Texas Hole and using an Andy’s Candy
midge.
NORTHEAST AREA
CONCHAS LAKE: Fishing
pressure was very light. A few smallmouth bass were taken by anglers using
spoons and drop shot rigs. We had no reports on other species.
EAGLE NEST LAKE: Bank fishing was good for anglers using power bait, roe
sacs, corn, power eggs and Pistol Petes for trout. We had no reports from
boaters. With the colder temperatures,
some ice has been forming around the edge of the lake but coming off during the
day. For updated conditions, check with the state park office at 505-377-1594.
LAKE MALOYA/
LAKE ALICE: Fishing pressure was very light this past
week but the anglers who showed up did quite well. They were catching stocked
rainbows and using power bait and home made dough bait.
MONASTERY LAKE:
Trout fishing was very good using
worms, power bait and bead head hares ears.
PECOS RIVER: Water
flow near the town of Pecos as of Monday morning was 42cfs. Trout fishing was fair-to-good
this past week for anglers using salmon eggs, bead head hare’s ears, worms and copper
john barrs.
RED RIVER: Water flow below the
hatchery was 59cfs. Trout fishing was slow-to-fair for anglers using copper
john barrs, night crawlers and wooly buggers.
RIO GRANDE: The
water flow Monday morning at the Taos Junction Bridge was 878cfs and the water
was murky. Fishing was slow for all species.
SPRINGER LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.
STORRIE LAKE: Trout
fishing was fair for anglers using yellow power bait and salmon eggs.
UTE LAKE: Anglers who braved
the windy weather over the past weekend did very well fishing for white bass
and walleye. They were using slab spoons and fishing at depths of 24-to-45 feet
along the main channel. We had no reports on other species.
NORTHWEST AREA
ABIQUIU LAKE: Fishing pressure was very
light. We had no reports from anglers.
ALBUQUERQUE
AREA DRAINS: Trout fishing was good for anglers using salmon eggs,
parachute adams, BWOs, copper john barrs, worms, corn
and power eggs.
BLUEWATER LAKE: Ice was forming around the shore line
this past weekend. For updated conditions contact the state park office at
505-876-2391.
CHAMA RIVER: Monday
morning water flows below El Vado and Abiquiu were 163cfs and 132cfs
respectively. Fishing below El Vado was fair for anglers using night crawlers,
copper john barrs, spinners and wooly buggers for a mix of brown and rainbow
trout.
COCHITI LAKE: Fishing
was generally slow but there were a few white bass and walleye taken by anglers
using spoons and deep running crank baits.
EL VADO LAKE: Fishing was
slow. Fishing pressure was very light.
JACKSON LAKE: Trout
fishing was fair using power bait, home made dough baits, salmon eggs and
spinners.
FENTON LAKE: As of
this past weekend, there was a thin layer of ice over most of the lake. At this
time, it is unsafe for ice fishing. Contact the state park office at
505-829-3630 for updated conditions.
HERON LAKE: Bank
fishing was fair using roe sacs, power bait, salmon eggs and power eggs for
rainbow trout. We had no reports on other species.
JEMEZ WATERS: Water flow on the Jemez River on
Monday morning was 40cfs. Fishing was fair using copper john barrs and salmon
eggs for trout. We had no reports on other streams
LAKE
FARMINGTON: Trout fishing was fair-to-good
using power bait, salmon eggs, worms, cheese and spinners.
NAVAJO LAKE: Fishing
was generally slow for all species. A few trout were taken by anglers fishing
from the bank and using roe sacs, salmon eggs and power bait. Fishing pressure
was very light.
RAMAH LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.
SAN JUAN: Water
flow below Navajo Lake as of Monday morning was 702cfs. Trout fishing this past week through the
Quality Waters was fair for anglers using San Juan worms, leech patterns,
pheasant tail nymphs and dead chickens. Fishing through the bait waters was fair
using garlic cheese, worms, copper john barrs and power eggs.
SANTA CRUZ LAKE: We had no
reports from anglers this week.
TINGLEY BEACH: At the Youth Pond and the Central
Pond, trout fishing was fair-to-good for anglers using worms, power bait, white
power eggs, olive Pistol Petes and salmon eggs. At the Catch and Release Pond
best flies were egg patterns, bunny leeches, scuds and Pistol Petes.
SOUTHWEST AREA
BEAR CANYON: Trout fishing was fair using
power bait, salmon eggs and worms.
BILL EVANS
LAKE: Trout fishing was fair-to-good
for anglers using power bait, salmon eggs, worms, and corn/egg combinations.
BURN LAKE: We had no reports from anglers
this week.
CABALLO LAKE: Fishing
pressure has been very light and fishing continued to be slow for all species.
ELEPHANT BUTTE: Fishing
was slow-to-fair for anglers using crank baits, slab spoons and jigs for white
bass, largemouth and smallmouth bass. A
few black bass were also taken by anglers using drop shot rigs. We had no reports on other species.
GLENWOOD POND: We had no reports from anglers this
week.
ESCONDIDA LAKE: Fishing
was slow for all species.
GILA RIVER: Water
flow near Gila on Monday was 267cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
LAKE ROBERTS: Trout
fishing was fair for anglers using power bait, salmon eggs and worms.
PERCHA DAM: Fishing
was slow for all species.
QUEMADO LAKE: We had no
reports from anglers this week.
RIO GRANDE: Water flow below Elephant
Butte on Monday was 8.6cfs. Fishing here and below Caballo was slow.
BATAAN LAKE: We
had no reports from anglers this week.
BOSQUE REDONDO: Trout fishing was slow-to-fair for anglers using salmon
eggs, worms and wet flies under a bubble. We had no reports on other
species.
BRANTLEY LAKE: Anglers are to practice catch and
release for all fish here as high levels of DDT were found in several
fish.
SOUTHEAST AREA
CARLSBAD
MUNICIPAL LAKE: We had no reports from anglers this week.
GRINDSTONE
RESERVOIR: Trout
fishing was fair this past week for anglers using power bait, salmon eggs,
wooly buggers and spinners.
JAL LAKE: We
had no reports from anglers this week.
LAKE VAN: Trout fishing was fair
using salmon eggs, power bait and worms. We had no reports on other species.
MANZANO LAKE: Trout fishing was fair-to-good using
power bait, power eggs and garlic cheese.
OASIS PARK
LAKE: The State Park has drained
the lake for maintenance and renovation. For more information contact the park
office at 505-356-5331.
PECOS RIVER: Water flow on Monday below Sumner Lake was 10cfs.
Fishing was fair-to-good using power bait, salmon eggs and corn for trout. We
had no reports on other species.
PERCH LAKE: Trout fishing was fair for
anglers using salmon eggs, power bait and Pistol Petes.
RUIDOSO RIVER: Water flow at Ruidoso on Monday was 13cfs. Trout
fishing was fair using salmon eggs and small bead head nymphs.
SANTA ROSA LAKE: Fishing from
the bank was fair this past week for anglers using tubes, worms and crank baits
for bass. We had no reports on other species or from boaters.
SUMNER LAKE: Fishing was slow for all
species. Fishing pressure was very light.
