CATCHES OF THE WEEK:

 

Sumner Lake: On February 2, Brian Stangel of Albuquerque caught a 5 pound walleye. He was using a Reelbait Walleye Flasher tipped with a Gulp Alive 4 inch black shad in 38 feet of water. On February 2, Ken Wolske of Algoma, Wisconsin caught a 5 pound walleye while trolling a pink lemonade Reef Runner 800 at 22 feet over 40 feet of water.

 

 

NORTHEAST AREA

 

CONCHAS LAKE:               Fishing was slow for all species. Fishing pressure was very light.

EAGLE NEST LAKE:           As of Monday the ice was 16-to-18 inches thick. Fishing this past week was rated as slow by some anglers and fair by others. Best baits were ice jigs tipped with wax worms, salmon egg or corn for a mixed bag of rainbows and perch.

LAKE MALOYA/

LAKE ALICE:       As of Monday there was about 16-to-17 inches of ice at Lake Maloya and about 13 inches at Lake Alice. Trout fishing was fair-to-good at both lakes for anglers using home made dough baits and salmon eggs. One angler at Lake Alice reported catching a limit of trout while using tube jigs.

MONASTERY LAKE:         We had no reports this week. Anglers are reminded that this lake is closed to ice fishing.   

PECOS RIVER:                      Water flow near Anton Chico as of Monday morning was 41cfs. Trout fishing downstream from I-25 was fair for anglers using salmon eggs, wax worms, corn and copper john barrs.

RED RIVER:                          Water flow below the hatchery was 57cfs. Trout fishing was slow but a few fish were taken by anglers using salmon eggs. Fishing pressure was very light.

RIO GRANDE:                      The water flow Monday morning at the Taos Junction Bridge was 494cfs. Fishing was slow for all species. Fishing pressure was very light.

STORRIE LAKE:                  We had no reports from anglers this week.   

UTE LAKE:                           Fishing was slow for all species. Fishing pressure was very light.  

 

NORTHWEST AREA

 

ABIQUIU LAKE:                 There is a layer of ice extending out about 100 yards around the entire lake. There is no fishing at this time.

ALBUQUERQUE 

   AREA DRAINS:                Trout fishing was very good this past week for anglers using wooly buggers, wax worms, salmon eggs, egg patterns, parachute adams and copper john barrs. Anglers reported good success at the Peralta, Albuquerque and Bernalillo Drains.

BLUEWATER LAKE:         We had no reports from anglers this week. For updated ice conditions contact the state park office at 505-876-2391.  

CHAMA RIVER:                  Monday morning water flows below El Vado and Abiquiu were 135cfs and 102cfs respectively. Fishing below El Vado was slow-to-fair for anglers using streamers, leeches and salmon eggs for trout. We had no reports from below Abiquiu.

COCHITI LAKE:                  Fishing was slow for all species. Fishing pressure was very light.    

EL VADO LAKE:           We had no reports from anglers this week.

FENTON LAKE:                   As of Monday, the ice was about 18 inches thick. Trout fishing was fair for some and good for others this past week. Best baits reported were salmon eggs, corn and wax worms for a mixed bag of rainbows and cutthroats.

HERON LAKE:                     We had no reports from anglers this week.

JACKSON LAKE:                We had no reports from anglers this week.

JEMEZ WATERS:               Water flow on the Jemez as of Monday morning was 31cfs near Jemez Springs. Trout fishing through and below town was fair for anglers using copper john barrs, salmon eggs and wax worms.

LAKE FARMINGTON:       We had no reports from anglers this week.

NAVAJO LAKE:                  Fishing was slow for all species. Fishing pressure continued to be very light.

RAMAH LAKE:   We had no reports from anglers this week.

SAN JUAN:                          Water flow below Navajo Lake as of Monday morning was 832cfs.  Trout fishing through the Quality Waters was fair for anglers using leeches, red annelids, San Juan worms, wooly buggers, orange sparkle worms and desert storms. Fishing slow and deep continues to be the best method at this time. Fishing through the bait waters was fair using garlic cheese, wax worms, salmon eggs and spinners.

SANTA CRUZ LAKE:        Anglers are reminded that the lake is closed to ice fishing.         

TINGLEY BEACH:               At the Youth Pond and the Central Pond, trout fishing was good using size 10 and 12 green leeches, Rapalas, power bait and Super Dupers. At the Catch and Release Pond best baits were egg patterns, scuds, leeches and Griffiths gnats.

 

SOUTHWEST AREA

 

BEAR CANYON:                 Trout fishing was good for anglers using cheese, power bait, salmon eggs and worms.

BILL EVANS LAKE:            Trout fishing was fair for anglers using power bait, garlic cheese and salmon eggs.

BURN LAKE:                        We had no reports from anglers this week.

CABALLO LAKE:               Fishing was slow for all species.     

ELEPHANT BUTTE:           Fishing was slow for all species. A few white bass were taken by anglers using live bait, Gulp minnows and slab spoons. We had no reports on other species.

GLENWOOD POND:           We had no reports from anglers this week.  

ESCONDIDA LAKE:           Trout fishing was slow-to-fair for anglers using salmon eggs, home made dough baits and corn. We had no reports on other species.

GILA RIVER:                         Water flow on the Gila as of this past Monday was 443cfs. Fishing here and on the Forks was slow.

LAKE ROBERTS:                 We had no reports from anglers this week.           

PERCHA DAM:                   Fishing was slow for all species.

QUEMADO LAKE:             Trout fishing was fair using salmon eggs, cheese and power bait.

RIO GRANDE:                      Water flow below Elephant Butte on Monday was 13cfs. Trout fishing was fair for anglers using worms, salmon eggs and power bait. Fishing on the river below Caballo was slow.

 

SOUTHEAST AREA

 

BATAAN LAKE:                 Trout fishing was good for anglers using cheese, salmon eggs, corn, power bait and spinners.        

BOSQUE REDONDO:          We had no reports from anglers this week.

BOTTOMLESS

 LAKES:                 Fishing was slow. Stocking has been suspended due to a golden algae bloom.

BRANTLEY LAKE:             Anglers are to practice catch and release for all fish here as high levels of DDT were found in several fish. 

CARLSBAD

     MUNICIPAL LAKE:       The lake is being drained to accommodate maintenance work and will remain so at least through February. 

GRINDSTONE

RESERVOIR:       Trout fishing was fair for anglers using salmon eggs, cheese and power bait.

JAL LAKE:                            We had no reports from anglers this week.     

LAKE VAN:                          Trout fishing was fair-to-good for anglers using power baits, cheese, worms, salmon eggs and prop flies under a bubble.

MANZANO LAKE:             We had no reports from anglers this week.

OASIS PARK LAKE:          The State Park has drained the lake for maintenance and renovation. For more information contact the park office at 505-356-5331.

PECOS RIVER:                      Water flow on Monday below Sumner Lake was 27cfs. Fishing was slow for all species.

PERCH LAKE:                      We had no reports from anglers this week.

RUIDOSO RIVER:                Water flow at Ruidoso on Monday was 2.1cfs. Trout fishing was slow.

SANTA ROSA LAKE:        We had no reports from anglers this week.   

SUMNER LAKE:                  Walleye and white bass fishing was very good for anglers fishing over the past weekend and using Reef Runners, Leprechaun slab spoons, minnows, jigs tipped with minnows and Reelbait Walleye Flashers with Gulp Alive 4” minnows.  Anglers reported catching limits of walleye up to 5 pounds and some good size white bass in just a few hours time. Most of the fish were taken at depths of 22-to-38 feet over 40 feet of water.
