ABQ's pick is the Berkley 4" PowerGrub - Milky Salt and Pepper Popular for all species of fish, especially in colder water. A flexible bait for a variety of rigging options. Like Bob, we prefer a 1/4 ball head for our structure fishing.
Lucky's choice: Yamamoto Single Tail Grub - White or Chartreuse It’s hard to beat a 3 or 4” grub in chartreuse or white on ¼ to 3/8 oz jig head for the walleye, crappie, and bass this time of year. Look for deepwater near points anywhere from 20-40ft of water on the main lake. It helps to use your electronics to find them, but it’s a great way to brush up on your video gaming/fishing at the same time.

Catches of the Week
On May 22, Russell Spahr of Albuquerque, NM caught and released a 34# striper at Elephant Butte.

On May 23, Trevor Spahr of Albuquerque, NM caught and released an over 30# striper at Elephant Butte.

Abiquiu Lake: 4,000 acre lake on the Chama River Northwest of Abiquiu. Fish species- Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, Catfish, Crappie and Trout
Clarity:1-2 foot
Water Temp:61
Good casting tubes for walleye, smallmouth and crappie. Good trolling 600 series Reef Runners and Berkley Flicker Shad for walleye. Jigging for walleye has also picked up. Walleye Flashers tipped with Gulp have been good on the wind blown rocky banks. No reports on other species.

Amistad Lake - Del Rio, TX: 64,900 acre lake on the Rio Grande, 12 miles northwest of Del Rio, TX in Val Verde County. Fish species- Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, Channel and Blue Catfish, White and Striped Bass

Conchas Lake: 16,033-acre lake on the Canadian River. Fish species - Largemouth and smallmouth bass, bluegill, crappie, channel catfish and walleye.
Clarity:Good
Water Temp:60s main lake, upper 60s up river
Walleye and white bass are fair trolling Berkley Flicker Shads, with many limits reported. Jigs, worms, bottom bouncers or crank baits are working well. Crappie are slow with jigs and minnows. No reports on other species.

Elephant Butte Lake: 40,000-surface acre lake on the Rio Grande formed by a dam created in 1916. Hundreds of miles of shoreline with a depth of 165 feet. When lake level is at capacity the lake is up to 40 miles long with an average width of about 1.5 miles. Fish species - Largemouth bass, catfish, walleye, flathead and channel catfish, crappie, smallmouth, white bass and striped bass (true stripers, not hybrid) and bluegill.

The whites and crappie are hot right now, Berkley Ripple Shad, sassy shad and live minnows are best. Walleye are fair. Stripers are starting to go on live biat. Smallmouth and largemouth are on and off right now, but fishing is consistent with tubes and cranks. Flipping is still producing some quality fish also.

Navajo Lake: 15,600-acre lake with a depth at the deepest part close to the dam of almost 400 feet. Three major arms of the lake, the Pine, the San Juan, and Francis gives fishermen plenty to enjoy. Fish species - Smallmouth and largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, northern pike, rainbow trout, kokanee salmon, brown trout and channel catfish.
Clarity:Good, very light stain in areas.
Water Temp:50-60
Pike are good with spinners, jerk baits and crank baits in the San Juan and Pine arms, fishing in structure close to shore. Smallmouth bass are reported as fair with tubes and jigs. Reports are good for Crappie in shallow water around the marinas and in La Jara, Francis Canyon and Negro Andy Canyon with bass plugs, jigs and minnows. No reports on other species. Santa Rosa Lake: 3,500-acre lake on the Pecos River. Fish species - Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, Catfish, Bluegill, Crappie and Walleye.
Clarity:3 inches, chocolate milk
Water Temp:low 60s
Walleye are fair to good using tubes, plastic craws and curly tail jigs. Smallmouth and largemouth bass are fair to good with tubes, brush hawgs and rage tails shallow. Crappie are good to excellent fishing shallow with tubes or minnows in brush. Catfish are slow.

Sumner Lake: 2,800-acre lake with a maximum depth of 65' and an average depth of 20-30 feet on the Pecos River. Fish species - Largemouth, smallmouth and spotted bass, bluegill, walleye, catfish, crappie, white bass and winter trout.
Clarity:Stained
Water Temp:low 60s
walleye are reported as good with bottom bouncers, deep diving lures, minnows and night crawlers. Most are being caught in less than 15 feet of water off the gravel points in the north end of the lake and in the mouth of the Alamogordo Arm. No reports on other species.

Ute Lake: 8,200-acre lake with a shoreline of approximately 45 miles with a maximum depth of 88 feet. Winds for miles through a rocky canyon up the Canadian River and Ute Creek. Fish species - Largemouth and smallmouth bass, bluegill, crappie, walleye, channel catfish and white bass.
Clarity:lightly stain on the main lake, moderately stained up the arms

Mid-day it starts to slow down, then it will pick up again late afternoon. Walleye--Good/Excellent--Trolling Berkley flicker shad or reef runners for suspended Walleye in 30-40 feet of water, minnows in 5-10 feet of water has also been working well. Fish anywhere from 6-40 feet of water. Crappie--Fair/Good--Trolling has been producing some fish, but minnows up the Canadian arm near the Crappie Wall. White bass--Slow Channel cats--Good/Excellent--Coolers full of cats the last few days. Nice 8 pounder along with several 3-5 pounders. Fish the Canadian arm past the Crappie Wall in 4-8 feet of water using Sonny's Stickey bait. Largemouth--Good--Spinner baits, chatter baits or tubes. Fish near brush/structure in 2-5 feet of water. Smallmouth--Good/Excellent--Lots of small fish. The larger fish are in 10 foot of water in brush. Work the area with Whacky rigged plastics for best results.
